  • Mr. Bennett
    26 Nov 1840
“The blacks, it will be recollected, attacked and carried off a flock of 500 sheep, belonging to Mr. Bennett, of which Slattery had charge, and as he was missing it was concluded that he had been murdered, especially as it was reported by a shepherd who had charge of a neighbouring flock of sheep, that about the time when the outrage was supposed to have been committed he heard the report of a musket, followed by the loud yells of exultation with which the savages usually announce the accomplishment of their bloody designs.”
